Youth Sports Philosophy

It is the philosophy of the Mount Pleasant Parks & Recreation Department to provide youth with the opportunity to participate in a learning environment where they have a positive experience.  Although these programs may involve competition, winning and losing are secondary to children learning the sport, enjoyment, or participation, and sportsmanship.

Youth Indoor Soccer Camp (1st-5th Grade)

This camp will be instructed by the Mount Pleasant Varsity Boys and Girls Soccer Coaches and their teammates. Participants will learn the basics of soccer through fun instructional drills.

Registration: Jan. 22-Feb. 23
Camp Dates: Feb. 26-29

5:30-6:15 PM (1st-2nd grade)

6:15-7:00 PM (3rd-5th grade)

Little Dunkers (1st-2nd Grade)

Dribble, pass, and shoot! This is an instructional program. Children will learn the basics of basketball through fun, and instructional drills. Youth sized basketballs and lowered basketball nets will be used in the development of young children’s skills. This program will be instructed by the Mount Pleasant Boys Varsity Coach, Eric Rawson and team players.

Youth Volleyball Camp (3rd-6th Grade)

 

This program teaches the basic fundamentals of volleyball. Participants learn how to bump, set, and dig for the ball. This camp will be instructed by Lisa Lowery.

MP Softball Clinic 3rd-7th Grade

This program focuses on building fundamental skills in a safe environment while building the enjoyment of playing softball. Participants will rotate through various stations that focus on skills of the game. Skills include throwing, catching, fielding, hitting, and pitching. Please bring your own helmets and gloves. Cleats and bats are optional. This clinic will be instructed by the Mount Pleasant High School coaching staff and players.

MP Sluggers 3rd-7th Grade

This program focuses on building fundamental skills in a safe environment while building the enjoyment of playing baseball. Kindergarten Soccer (ages 5 & 6 year old's)

 

This program is for boys and girls to be taught the basic fundamentals of soccer with fun drills. This program consists of weekly instruction and sessions leading up to scrimmages. Parent volunteer coaches are needed. Shirts will be order by April 3, 2024.

This program focuses on the fundamentals, participation, and the fun of the game. Shin guards are required and games will be played on Saturday mornings. Parent volunteer coaches are needed.

Youth Golf Camp (Ages 8-12)

 

Learn  the basic fundamentals of the proper grip, swing, stance, and etiquette of golf. This camp will be taught by Jordie Dingman.

Class limited to 10 participants.

Youth Tennis Camp (Ages 8-14)

 

This camp offers participants to have fun with learning about this lifelong sport. Participants will be taught the basic fundamentals of the proper grip, swing, stance, etiquette through instructional drills and fun. This program will be instructed by the High School Varsity Girls Tennis Coach, Martha Peterson and her team players.

Kindergarten Flag Football

This program is for boys and girls. This program rotates participants through various stations that focus on skills of the game. Stations will include hiking, passing, flag-pulling, catching, and kicking. During practice time, participants will play a scrimmaged game. Volunteer coaches are needed for this program. We encourage parents/guardians to help. Please bring a water bottle.

Youth Flag Football League (1st-4th)

 

This program is an instructional program lead by volunteer parent coaches. Each game will consist of 2-20 minute halves. Teams will practice one night of the week for approx. 45 minutes (coaches decide what night/time works best for them to hold their practice) and games will be held on Saturday mornings between 8:30-11:30 am. Participants will receive a t-shirt and encouraged to bring their own water bottle.

3rd-6th Grade Panther Basketball Camp

This camp is led by the High School Boys Varsity Coach, Eric Rawson and his team players. This camp will provide knowledge of shooting, dribbling, passing, defensive and offensive techniques in a team and individual setting.

Youth Basketball 3rd-6th League

 

Our league focuses on learning the fundamentals, participation, and the fun of playing the game of basketball. All games will be played on Saturday mornings. Each participate will receive a t-shirt.

Youth Activities

2023 Panther Dance Clinic (K-5th)

Join the MPCHS Drill Team for fun and dance. Dancers will meet at Cottrell Gym for practices and perform their routine during the halftime at the Varsity Girls Basketball game. This clinic will be instructed by the Mount Pleasant High School Dance Coach, Nikole Keaster.

Don’t forget to wear your maroon & gold to support our school.

Panther Cheerleading Camp (K-5th)

This camp offers youths the opportunity to develop the basic cheerleading skills such as jumps and chants. This camp will meet for two practices and preform before the Mt. Pleasant Panthers Football game. This camp will be instructed by the Mt. Pleasant High School Cheer Coach, Nikole Keaster and her Cheer Squad.

Performance Info:

The cost to get into the football game will be $6.00. Participants will not have to pay but friends and family members will have to.

Where to meet: Please meet at the flagpole between 6:30-6:40 PM

What to Wear: Participants should wear tennis shoes. Your choice of clothing is up to you, please dress for the weather. (Suggestion: Marron and Gold to show your Panther spirit).
